Well yes... Each year, our school has a 3 week period (Winterim) that takes up most of November. For those 3 weeks, you can chose a few options, one happens to be an independent study. For an independent study, you chose an area that you are interested in and you immerse yourself completely in it for the entirety of Winterim.
Basically, I'm going to be shadowing/interning with Doctor Willey and his assiocates at UTMC. He deals with Lung Cancer and his lab runs biological tests using PCR (Polymerase Chain Reaction) to try to determining collolations between gene sequencing and lung cancer. They do this to be able to predict which people have a predisposition to cancer so that they can catch it in the early stages/help treat it/etc
I'm really into Biology and the other physical sciences, plus I am interested in Medicine/research, so this will be very interesting for me~
